Blue Tansy

How can blue tansy transform your skincare routine?

.

Native to Morocco, Tanacetum annuum is derived from the blue tansy plant and is well-known for it’s striking blue color despite the flowers being yellow. Blue Tansy initially starts out yellow and a substance called matricin which occurs naturally in the plant, turns into chamazulene when it is heated. This is what gives it the distinct blue color and the anti-inflammatory benefits.

The extraction process of obtaining the volatile substance from the blue tansy plant requires meticulous temperature controlling. Too much heat and it can damage the compound and not enough heat will result in an unextracted oil. Steam passes through the plant to vaporize the compounds and then reforms into a liquid after cooling. Blue tansy oil also contains camphor making it ideal for repairing skin and reducing redness. The oil also contains sabinene which plays a role in neutralizing free radical damage and the camphor has a cooling effect on the skin that soothes irritated skin. These key compounds also help to speed up the healing process on damaged skin.

How does blue tansy enhance skincare regimes?

There’s many variables to consider when selecting a skincare regime that suits the individual. What sort of climate a person lives in, the pollution, genetics, how someone is predisposed to a certain skin type, etc. Inflammation is common and redness too. Blue tansy works to fight against these common skin problems and promote healthy aging. When combined with a suitable face wash, blue tansy mixed with a carrier oil such as argan or jojoba can be extremely healing to damaged skin.

Skin can prematurely age due to free radical damage and inflammation from pollutants in the air. These pollutants can impact the cell and skin barrier, but the antioxidants in blue tansy oil can help reverse this and reinstate the cells barrier. Blue tansy works to reduce inflammation and retain plump, dewy skin that retains moisture. It helps to promote collagen longevity and due to the camphor and sabinene, it can help with acne breakouts. Breakouts happen when there’s a build up sebum on the skin which causes blockages in the pores leading to inflammation and acne. Blue tansy can be an excellent addition to anyone who experiences constant acne breakouts due to the calming, cooling and anti inflammatory effects of the blue tansy oil.

how to use blue tansy oil

When using a highly volatile essential oil, it’s extremely important to dilute, dilute, dilute.

Many skin irritations from essential oils come from either using the essential oil straight on the skin, not being diluted enough, or being improperly used on different parts of the body. For example, it’s not recommended to put any fruit essential oil such as lime, lemon, or orange on the skin (even diluted) and then going out into the sun. This can cause burns on the skin that may not heal entirely. If it were me, I would not put any fruit essential oils on my face since my face is constantly exposed to UV rays.

If doing a DIY recipe with blue tansy oil, it’s always best to try less than what the recipe calls for. More essential oil can always be added but taking it out is a bit tricker. Blue tansy can be paired with other powerful anti inflammatory essential oils such as rose geranium, frankincense and ylang ylang. For our blue tansy oil, in a 1oz bottle, we use a 1-2% dilution rate to ensure no adverse reaction occurs and we still always reccomend to do a spot test to see if a skin sensitivity or reaction occurs.

There are many benefits to using blue tansy oil in a skincare regime, whilst still being safe with the extremely volatile oils.
